As Summer continues to approach and the Sun continues to warm the sea water, the ocean has undergone some changes over the past few weeks. The king mackerel were here in decent numbers the last week of April but have disappeared over the past few weeks. The bottom fish offshore have also tapered off in recent weeks for unknown reasons. To add to that, we’ve had some wierd weather over the same time frame so that is probably a contributing factor, not to mention some divers have reported a slight thermocline offshore which can also affect the fish. However, this week our sea temps are between 75 and 76 degrees leading into a good stretch of high pressure which has turned the bottom fish back on. On May 14th, we had an 8hr Split Trip and had a limit of vermilion snapper, amberjack, almaco jack, triggerfish, mangrove snapper, red snapper, rudderfish, and way more sharks than cam be possibly healthy. Its good to see the bottom fish picking up though so I will take it. I’m hoping with this decent stretch of high pressure and hot temps, it will further warm the sea temps and bring the kingfish back. Once that happens, it will be game-on off our coast! 904-362-0609 to book
