On the shorter trips like the 4hr and 6hr, and even the 8hr, the target is Black Sea Bass through April. Once April begins to warm our waters, the ocean begins to come alive with different species like king mackerel, amberjack, cobia, barracuda, and April is also when we start expecting to see dolphin on the 12hr trips. We are already finding schools of live bait such as cigar minnows, spanish sardines, and have even seen some pogies on the beach. But for now, the 4hr and 6hr trips are targeting Black Sea Bass. The numbers have been “ok” not phenomenal. About 5 or 6 years ago, when BSB bag limit was 15 per person with a 12″ minimum size, I remember we would go out and bring back a 6 person limit of them; that’s 90 BSB in a 6hr or 8hr trip. We’d end up being about 20 miles out. It’s my belief the over abundance of red snapper due to the nearly 12 year moratorium has had a major negative effect on our BSB numbers, among other fish, specifically vermilion snapper, and grouper. It’s a great time to go fishing whether you choose a short trip for entertainment, or a long trip to get fish for the freezer. We would love to have you on the boat and show you a fun time on the water. Come with us! 904-362-0609
